phantom studies scientific errors

RFK Jr. dropped a 69-page bombshell on American health policy, and nobody seems to know what to make of it. The Make America Healthy Again report reads like a manifesto against ultra-processed foods, environmental chemicals, and childhood vaccines. Kennedy himself called it “the most radical consensus by a government agency in history.” That’s one way to put it.

The report blames chronic diseases on everything from Doritos to iPads. Fair enough. Americans are sick, and somebody should probably figure out why. But here’s where things get weird: the document cites studies that don’t exist. Public health experts are calling them “phantom studies.” You can’t make this stuff up.

The vaccine section is a doozy. While acknowledging vaccines prevent infectious diseases, the report suggests they might cause chronic ones. It calls for more research into vaccine injuries and conflicts of interest. Then it drops this gem: COVID-19 vaccines aren’t recommended for healthy kids or pregnant women anymore. Except the CDC and FDA say the opposite. Awkward.

Speaking of the CDC, they weren’t invited to the party. Neither were their scientific advisory panels. Michael Osterholm from the University of Minnesota called it a dangerous precedent. When you’re making health policy without health experts, that’s probably not great.

Making health policy without health experts—what could possibly go wrong?

The maternal health claims are particularly wild. The report says COVID-19 isn’t a threat to pregnant women. Meanwhile, maternal deaths peaked during the pandemic. Pregnancy is literally a risk factor for severe COVID. The FDA still recommends vaccines for expecting mothers. But who’s counting?

Industry groups are already sharpening their knives. Food companies, agriculture lobbyists, chemical manufacturers—they’re all gearing up for a fight. The National Corn Growers Association slammed the report as fear-based and lacking scientific credibility. The report calls for urgent action but offers zero funding or concrete steps. It’s like declaring war without an army. The Trump administration just yanked $766 million from Moderna’s vaccine development program, effectively killing late-stage trials for pandemic preparedness.

The whole thing bypassed traditional scientific review. No expert panels. No peer review. Just 69 pages of assertions backed by citations that sometimes lead nowhere. Healthcare authorities are scratching their heads. Is this the future of American health policy? God help us if it is.
