uae invests 200 billion ai

The United Arab Emirates has secured over $200 billion in new U.S. commercial and AI-related deals this May, marking a major milestone in the countries’ economic partnership. These investments build on a broader 10-year, $1.4 trillion UAE commitment to U.S. AI infrastructure and related technologies. The agreements include plans to co-invest in building and financing American data centers that match UAE’s own capacity.

The deals span multiple sectors including AI infrastructure, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotechnology, and advanced manufacturing. Etihad Airways invested $14.5 billion for 28 American-made aircraft from Boeing and GE Aerospace. Emirates Global Aluminum committed $4 billion to develop an aluminum smelter in Oklahoma. Holtec International and IHC Industrial Holding are partnering to build small modular reactors in Michigan. Qualcomm will establish a global engineering center in Abu Dhabi focused on AI and data centers. The visit by Trump was particularly significant as it represented the first U.S. presidential visit to the UAE in 17 years.

The UAE-US partnerships span cutting-edge technologies from AI to quantum computing, while strengthening American manufacturing through multibillion-dollar investments.

National security stands at the core of these agreements. The UAE is aligning its regulations with U.S. standards to protect technology transfers. Both nations have committed to strong safeguards preventing unauthorized technology diversion. RTX (formerly Raytheon) is partnering with UAE entities to secure U.S. critical mineral supply chains for semiconductors and defense needs.

The investment is expected to accelerate U.S. AI infrastructure growth through the significant Emirati capital injection. Experts predict these agreements will create high-value American jobs and expand manufacturing. Similar to how clean energy jobs grew at double the overall economy rate in 2023, these technology investments are anticipated to generate substantial employment opportunities. The deals should boost U.S. data center capacity and cloud computing resources while enhancing the industrial base for semiconductors and defense technologies.

These investments strengthen the decades-long strategic partnership between the nations. The total value of U.S.-Gulf region investment agreements now exceeds $2 trillion. Cooperation extends beyond technology to defense, energy, and space sectors.

The partnership includes plans for an UAE-funded AI data center campus in Abu Dhabi that will serve as a regional platform for American tech companies, effectively extending the U.S. tech ecosystem to a key Middle Eastern ally.
