Saudi Arabia has struck a massive deal to purchase 18,000 of NVIDIA‘s most advanced AI chips, making it one of the largest single-country orders in recent years. The acquisition is part of a broader $5 billion investment in the country’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. This bold move aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, the kingdom’s strategy to reduce oil dependence and transform into a technology-driven economy.
The chips will primarily go to Humain, a Saudi AI infrastructure startup that’s becoming the country’s hub for artificial intelligence development. Amazon Web Services is also partnering with Humain to power government-backed AI solutions. Humain and Amazon’s joint initiative will create an AI agent marketplace that supports the Saudi government’s digital transformation efforts. These partnerships represent significant U.S. tech involvement in Saudi Arabia‘s digital transformation. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has emphasized that AI is now considered essential infrastructure for countries seeking technological advancement.
NVIDIA’s stock jumped nearly 6% following news of the Saudi order. The deal also lifted the broader AI and semiconductor sector, affecting major ETFs like SPY, QQQ, and SMH. Analysts see this agreement as a potential template for future large-scale chip deals with other countries. This transaction comes as U.S. legislation increasingly targets export controls on advanced AI chips to countries like China.
The timing is strategic, coming as U.S. chipmakers face restrictions on exports to China. Saudi Arabia’s investment offers an important new market for NVIDIA’s advanced processors. The deal was announced during high-level diplomatic visits and tech leader tours in the Middle East.
Looking ahead, Saudi Arabia plans to create a marketplace of AI agents for government and commercial use. The country anticipates ordering “several hundred thousand” additional processors over the next five years. Meanwhile, OpenAI is considering new data center projects in the region.
This investment isn’t happening in isolation. The United Arab Emirates is also in advanced talks for AI capacity expansion. Saudi Arabia’s initiative could spark regional innovation across the Middle East.
For NVIDIA and other U.S. tech giants, these partnerships offer significant growth opportunities while helping Saudi Arabia advance its technological ambitions and reduce its historical dependence on oil revenues.
