Google Labs has revealed Disco, an experimental browser that transforms how people complete tasks online. Announced on December 11, 2025, Disco builds on Chromium but reimagines web browsing for the modern internet. While it maintains familiar tab designs like Chrome, it focuses on creating interactive web applications from user prompts.
Disco’s first major feature, GenTabs, leverages Google’s Gemini 3 AI model to generate custom tools based on what users ask for. Someone planning a trip to see cherry blossoms in Japan can simply describe their needs, and GenTabs creates an itinerary with maps and travel tips. Other examples include meal planners with food images, gardening task organizers, and educational tools like 3D solar system models. The innovative system enables users to describe needed tools in natural language input without requiring any coding knowledge. Similar to other multimodal AI systems, Disco processes text, images, and potentially audio to create a more intuitive user experience.
GenTabs transforms simple requests into powerful custom tools, turning travel ideas, meal planning, and educational concepts into interactive web experiences.
The browser’s interface differs from traditional designs. It features a chat column on the left for entering prompts, which also serves as an address bar. When users create a GenTab, it displays with a Gemini spark instead of a favicon. Tabs are organized into “Tasks” that function as contained workspaces for related AI chats and web pages. The browser completely lacks a traditional URL bar, using the central prompt composer for all navigation and queries.
What makes GenTabs unique is how they connect to the web. Every AI-generated element links back to web sources, keeping users grounded in real information while organizing it in helpful ways. The system uses open tabs and chat history to inform its creations, encouraging a productive browsing loop.
Currently, Disco is available only on macOS through a waitlist system. Google describes it as an early-stage product with some imperfections. The company is limiting access to a small group of testers to gather feedback.
This new approach competes with other AI browsers like Perplexity Comet and ChatGPT Atlas. However, Disco stands out by generating full custom applications rather than just providing search results. Google says GenTabs is just the first of many planned Disco features, with successful ideas potentially moving to Chrome in the future.
