ai boosts search efficiency

As artificial intelligence reshapes how people search online, speed and satisfaction have become the new currency of the web. AI tools now handle 45 billion monthly sessions worldwide. That’s a massive shift in how people find information.

AI assistants now equal 56% of global search engine volume. ChatGPT alone processes 2 billion queries daily. Traffic from large language models jumped from 17,000 to 107,000 sessions between January and May, comparing 2024 to 2025. That’s a 527% year-over-year increase.

One big reason people prefer AI search is how they use it. ChatGPT prompts average 60 words, compared to just 3.4 words on Google. People aren’t just searching anymore. They’re having conversations. And they’re getting direct answers fast.

Speed matters a lot in this shift. Pages loading in two seconds or less achieve higher conversion rates. A one-second delay reduces conversions by 7%. AI search delivers fast, direct answers, which removes the need to click through multiple websites.

That speed comes with a tradeoff for websites. About 60% of Google searches already end without a click. On mobile, that number reaches 77%. AI summaries make things even more direct. Searches with AI summaries show a 26% no-action rate, compared to 16% without them. AI-generated summaries reduce click-through rates by up to 40% for informational queries.

User adoption keeps climbing. Half of all consumers already use AI tools like ChatGPT. Around 80% of consumers use AI summaries for at least 40% of their searches. Half of consumers also intentionally seek AI-powered search engines. Among Gen Z in the U.S., 35% use AI chatbots for information searches. Multimodal AI systems like Google’s Gemini are further accelerating this trend by processing text, images, and audio to deliver richer, more personalized search experiences.

The financial scale is hard to ignore. An estimated $750 billion in U.S. revenue could funnel through AI search by 2028. AI summaries are expected in over 75% of Google searches by that same year. Around 70% of businesses already report higher ROI from AI in SEO. Brands that fail to optimize for AI visibility risk losing their competitive advantage as this landscape continues to evolve rapidly. Google’s AI Overviews alone now reach 2 billion monthly users, signaling just how deeply AI-generated answers have embedded themselves into mainstream search behavior.

AI search isn’t just faster. It’s becoming the default way millions of people get answers every day.
