byd s 1 000hp electric hypercar

BYD’s latest electric hypercar isn’t holding back. The Chinese automaker has revealed a 1,000-horsepower electric convertible that’s heading to Europe in summer 2026. The car made its debut at the Beijing Auto Show and will also appear at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

BYD just dropped a 1,000-horsepower electric convertible, and it’s coming for Europe in 2026.

The car uses a tri-motor all-wheel drive system. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in under two seconds. That puts it in the same conversation as some of the world’s fastest cars. BYD’s calling it the first intelligent electric supercar.

It’s a four-seat convertible with a 2+2 layout and a soft-top retractable roof. The body is made from carbon fiber to keep the weight down. Carbon fiber seats are also included inside. The design was created by Wolfgang Egger, a former Audi designer who now works as BYD’s global design director.

The car runs on BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0 technology. With Flash Charging 2.0, it can recharge in as little as five minutes. An 80 percent charge takes about nine minutes with the right infrastructure. Charging speeds can reach up to 1,500 kW. The car’s claimed range is up to 599 km, or about 372 miles, on the WLTP standard.

Handling tech is a big part of the story too. The car uses steer-by-wire steering and magnetorheological suspension. That’s the same type of suspension found on Ferraris and the Chevrolet Corvette. A camera-based system reads the road ahead and adjusts the dampers in real time. BYD calls the overall system Disus-M.

Inside, there’s a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, and a 26-inch head-up display. Four-point racing harnesses and physical buttons are also part of the interior setup.

BYD’s positioned the car to compete directly with models like the Porsche 911 Cabriolet. It’s targeting the high-end luxury segment that European brands have long dominated. The company’s currently testing the car at the Nürburgring. Anticipated pricing is expected to exceed the Denza Z9 GT’s €115,000 starting point, placing it firmly in the luxury hypercar tier. In Australia, the car could also face competition from the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore in the growing electric luxury convertible segment.

BYD says this car is a “watershed moment for the global auto industry.” Europe’s about to find out if that’s true.
